You were recently gifted a sewing machine, or perhaps purchased a new sewing machine as a treat for yourself. Either way, you are excited! Maybe you are finally going to try out sewing. Or, maybe you are experienced, and just needed an upgrade. Out with the old, and in with the new, as they say! You sit down, no matter your background, ready to start something new, and create! You boot up the machine, and quickly come to a startling realization. You aren’t sure what to do next.
Looking at the sewing machine, sparkly and new, you…find yourself at a full stop. Questions begin to flood your mind, and really, why didn’t you think about this before? Where do you even begin with your new sewing machine? How do you thread your new machine? How do you wind a bobbin on your new sewing machine? Whether you are an experienced sewer or not, there are so many aspects to your new sewing machine and you simply do not know where to begin. And honestly, you’re not the only one with these questions. However, luck is on your side today. You happen to remember that the Vacuums R Us & Sewing Too – Boulder Store offers a wide variety of classes. From beginning sewing basics, all the way to advanced machine embroidery or quilting: There is a class for everyone! No matter the machine, no matter the expertise, there is a class and a seat for you.
We have been there. Beginning a new hobby can be daunting! Or, on the flipside, your hobby has been but on hold due to machine error, and with a new machine, you feel as though you are back at square one. Or, another option, maybe you are just simply stuck on a project and need some guidance. Another scenario: maybe you have stuck to quilting thus far, but now want to expand your horizons to include something new! Our staff at the Vacuums R Us & Sewing Too – Boulder Store understands that. No matter the situation. From experienced sewers, to bright-eyes newbies: the process is daunting either road, or roads, that you travel. Our sewing classes are developed to help you prosper and let your creativity flourish, for all skill levels!
If you are a beginner, completely new to sewing, or a veteran and simply want a refresher on how to use your new sewing machine, or an older one, we recommend that you start with the ‘Learn to Sew’ classes! All the ‘Learn to Sew’ classes have been developed by our trained staff to walk you through the basics of sewing while creating a nice and positive atmosphere and doing creative and fun projects. In our ‘Learn to Sew classes’, you will learn many of the basic but crucial techniques including the following; how to do seams, piecing fabrics together, seam allowances, basic zipper installation and following a pattern. In the class we will also explore different materials that can be sewn, optional presser feet, and the importance of using quality sewing threads for your projects! These sewing classes are all done on your own sewing machine! Imagine how comfortable you will begin feel with the machine, after using your sewing machine to learn how to sew a cute pillow with a French seam, or an adjustable pet collar with Velcro! Our in-store trainers are here to educate and guide you all through the process while exploring the possibilities and avenues for you to creatively express yourself

In addition to our ‘Learn to Sew’ classes at Vacuums R Us & Sewing Too, we also have thirty minute sewing lessons available for you to learn how to use your sewing machine. This includes operating systems, threading systems, and machine interface. Our employees have been factory trained on all brands of sewing machines, including Bernina, Baby Lock, Brother, Pfaff, Husqvarna Viking, Janome, Elna, Necchi, Juki and Handi Quilter. Learn the basics of your sewing machine from an expert! In these thirty minute sewing classes, you will learn how to thread your sewing machine, wind a bobbin correctly, insert a bobbin, and the basics of a straight stitch and zig-zag stitch. Our trained employees will also teach you what all those fancy stitches on your sewing machine are for, what the extra presser feet your sewing machine came with are and how to change your presser feet correctly. These thirty minute sewing lessons are hands on, so just like the ‘Learn to Sew’ class, make sure to bring your sewing machine with you to class!
Some of the features sewing machines come with these days can be well…intimidating is one word. That extremely large and colorful touch screen, the multitude of options it provides on the touch screen, and all the buttons on the front are well, more than confusing, and almost borderline scary. You may begin to wonder what in the world you would use this all for. What does that icon with a scissor do? Why is there a laser beam on my sewing machine, and how do I move it?! We here at the Vacuums R Us & Sewing Too – Boulder Store encourage you to dive deeper into your computerized sewing machine, embroidery machine, or quilting machine by scheduling a private sewing lesson with one of our trained employees. Our employees will show you all there is to know about your machine! They will teach you what all those buttons are for on the front of your sewing machine, how to drop the feed dogs to free motion quilt, what to use that built in laser beam for (yes, some sewing machines now come with laser lights to help with straight stitch sewing!), how to set your machine up for embroidery and so much more! Remember, our employees have been factory trained on pretty much every brand known to mankind.
Maybe you have taken our beginning classes, or are an experienced sewer just looking for that little something extra. For people feeling comfortable with basic sewing techniques and wanting to expand their horizons and skill-sets, our ‘Beyond the Basics’ sewing classes will help you expand and elevate your sewing creativity all while creating new, modern, complex, and fun projects. These advanced sewing classes will also add more decorative and creative elements, steps or techniques, so you can take your projects to the next level. Our trained employees will even help you start your exploration the world of interfacings, stabilizers, and decorative materials! Tote bags are fun and simple to make, yes, but adding structured materials like cork and leather can really make the bag pop and requires a bit more tenacity! And, honestly, who doesn’t want to learn how to stiffen the handles on your tote bag or stiffen and stabilize those cute zipper bags you have been making with interfacings and stabilizers?
Whatever road you are on, no matter the project: our employees are here to help you grow and prosper with your creative hobby! We love to sew, and want you to love sewing too!
Our staff at Vacuums R Us & Sewing Too are constantly thinking of fun, new fresh and modern projects to create and share with our customers. We enjoy the ever-changing hobby and are constantly bringing you newer, better, more seamless (ha-ha) sewing classes to explore different techniques and projects, and help you expand your arsenal of skills.
For example, our ‘Recycled Materials’ classes explore several creative ways to repurpose and reuse different types of materials that might have otherwise gone to the trash, while creating a fun and eco-friendly project.
Or maybe you are not sure what to do with your scraps of fabric that have been accumulating in the closet? Maybe your doggo friend needs a new leash? Attend our pet leash class to learn how to use those scraps of fabric! There really are so many possibilities for fabric scraps!
